The future of the Earth appears to be in the grip of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. The investment and work in Artificial Intelligence are accelerating at an unprecedented rate, due to which the demand for AI engineers is rising day by day. AI algorithms are powering massive amounts of calculations and decisions because they can find patterns in data, unseen to the naked eye. They're evolving technology in powerful ways that are enhancing our knowledge.

AI platforms can do repetitive tasks, like learn how to automatically update contact data in your customer relationship manager (CRM) or generate weekly status reports for your leads. In the business development world, AI and machine learning tools sort through leads and pull a wide range of data together about your prospect list. The tedious work of organizing contact information or researching prospect demographics can be handed to bots and allow your sales team to focus on selling.

Gartner, the world’s leading research company predicts that AI and Machine learning industry is expected to generate close to 2.3 million jobs by the end of 2020. This seems to be the only sector where the number of jobs is almost double the number of skilled job seekers. And with machine learning skills in demand and skyrocket machine learning salary, the industry is a jobseeker’s market for people who can build performance efficient and accurate machine learning models. However, for fresher with no real-world machine learning experience, the prospect of finding a great machine learning internship and landing their dream job can be a little daunting.

If you are just starting your machine learning career and looking for a way to get your foot in the door, landing a great machine learning internship will propel you light years ahead of achieving the goal of becoming a successful machine learning engineer. Finding machine learning internships is the most important thing a fresher or a beginner in machine learning can do. A machine learning internship gives you the feel and experience of working in the industry while getting your hands dirty with all the machine learning concepts and techniques required in the industry. Doing a machine learning internship can also open up doors for better machine learning job opportunities or sometimes also lead to permanent full-time positions.

In this blog, I am going to explain why Relatas is one of the best. Before getting into the story, let me introduce myself.

Hi,

I am Siva from Chennai. Currently, I am pursuing my M.Tech in Industrial Management from Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi and additionally, I am working as an Artificial Intelligence intern at Relatas. Like other students, I also felt that I should look for an internship to gain the real experience of working at a company.

So, I created a profile on LinkedIn and started to apply for internships related to AI without even reading the job description. From each one of those, I was getting rejection emails only. Later I understood that I should develop some field knowledge and also should do some projects to crack the interview assignments. I stopped applying for internships and begin to complete some online courses and projects.

Once I believed that I am ready to apply for internships, I created a resume which resembles with the job description of internships related to AI. This time I didn’t apply to random companies as I was sure that I will get through the resume screening. During this time only, I came across Relatas on AngelList. The job description was pretty impressive and I applied for it.

In the job description itself, it was mentioned that the intern will be getting an opportunity to collaborate with the Vice President (VP) of the company having 15 years of experience from MNCs. As a fresher, I felt that I will be able to learn a lot if I get this internship. To my surprise, just within hours of applying, the VP of the company mailed me about the interview process. The interview involves three rounds.

1. Phone Screen

2. Assignment

3. Detailed Interview

After receiving this mail, I went through their website to understand their work.

Relatas is a startup which tries to bring revolution into the Sales’ sector using Artificial Intelligence.  I liked their work and decided that I should join Relatas at any cost.

Phone Screen

During this round, I had a telephonic interview with Robby (VP). He asked me about my qualifications and the previous projects which I did. Later, he explained to me about the company and their work culture.

Assignment

This is the round where Relatas gains a clear picture of the candidate. This is a technical round and I was given an assignment to solve. The dataset was given and I had to use an ML algorithm along with NLP techniques to solve the assignment. The assignment which the candidate solves is similar to the kind of work which is required by the intern to do. I was given 4 days to solve the assignment. The interest to join Relatas increased much more after solving this assignment as I liked the task very much.

Detailed Interview

As Robby was impressed with my assignment’s solution, he forwarded my details to his colleague Kempa. For the final round, I was asked some technical questions and the interview lasted for more than half an hour. During this interview, I was getting disconnected from the call due to network issue. But, Kempa was calm and patient. He co-operated with me until the end of the interview. After joining Relatas, I understood that not only Kempa, everyone who is working at Relatas is having such good qualities.

Once I got to know that I got selected as an intern, I was on cloud nine!

Along with the good news, Robby introduced me to Sudip (the CEO of Relatas). Later, I had a call with Sudip to discuss my roles and responsibilities.

Then started my internship at Relatas. I was given a document to setup the ML environment involving the installation of Docker and MongoDB.

After 3 days, I was formally welcomed by the Relatas team. During this welcome meet, I had to present a presentation on Relatas’s work. At this same meet, I was instructed what I will be working on.

After a week, Robby told me to prepare a Press Release (PR) and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) file regarding the recommendation engine which I will be developing. The PR FAQs is a customer-centric document for designing new products. The PR FAQs document is generally made by product managers but can be understood by anyone in the organization.

I want to become a Product Manager (PM) after gaining 2 or 3 years of experience and Relatas made me gain some basic skills of PM during my internship itself. Also, I can assure as an intern at Relatas, he/she surely will learn the basic corporate skills such as responsibility, commitment, time management and team management.

The best thing that happened to me at Relatas is that I gained a new sense of professionalism and a clearer view of what it meant to be in the professional world.
